A brick and mortar location for the Bon Me food trucks will open in mid-January at One Kendall Square, a food-packed address that also includes The Blue Room, Belly Wine Bar, West Bridge, and Cambridge Brewing Company. Construction is already underway, according to a press release, and the Vietnamese-inspired menu will include similarly priced classics from the trucks (noodle salads, rice bowls, the Bon Me Sandwich) as well as restaurant-only specials. Don't worry, the trucks aren't shutting down. They'll continue to sell Bon Me food on the go in conjunction with the restaurant.
The restaurant space will be around 1000 square feet and designed in the same vein as the trucks. The Bon Me trucks primarily operate in Boston, so opening in Kendall Square provides a new opportunity to feed folks on the other side of the river.
The current menu for the trucks centers around the three main dishes - the aforementioned sandwich (a "decidedly non-authentic" Vietnamese banh mi, from which the trucks get their name), noodles, rice - all of which include a choice of meat and some other customizations. Side dishes such as deviled tea eggs and edamame round things out, and all of the dishes can be prepared for vegetarians or vegans. Drinks include Thai iced tea and Vietnamese iced coffee.
