Chestnut Hill Location of Rosie's Bakery Gets a Facelift

Long before the item-specific bakery trend began to spread, depositing "cupcakeries" and macaron shops in its wake, Rosie's Bakery was quietly doling out a whole range of classic buttery, sugary baked goods at three locations: Chestnut Hill, South Station, and Inman Square. 38 years later, the Chestnut Hill location just spent the summer getting a modern redesign, reopening in late July and slowly adding the finishing touches and some new menu items.

And now the end is near: everything is expected to be in place by mid-October, from the Warhol-esque pop art to new menu items, such as the "Believe Me They're Worth the Price Whole Grain Olive Oil Organic Sugar Dark Chip Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookies," which hopefully live up to their mouthful of a name. Owner/Chef Judy Rosenberg's cookbook, All-Butter, Cream-Filled, Sugar-Packed Baking Book, hints at the guilty pleasure old-school offerings that have been sold at Rosie's for decades, but the new menu items delve into, gasp, pseudo-healthier territory, incorporating ingredients like olive oil, unbleached flour, brown rice syrup, and organic produce.
