A Gathering of Celebrated Bartenders; Mural Controversy

DOWNTOWN CROSSING - Tomorrow night Locke-Ober hosts "The Thing," a massive showing of some of Boston's finest cocktail talent including such giants of local mixology as Misty Kalkofen (Brick & Mortar), John Gertsen (Drink), and Jackson Cannon (The Hawthorne). October 4, 9pm, tickets are $75, benefit the Barbara Lynch Foundation's "Meet the Worms" program and are available here. [Official Site via BRT]

QUINCY - The President's Rock Club bar in Quincy Center is being asked to remove a new mural "that blends images of President Barack Obama and Jimi Hendrix playing guitar." The bar didn't give the artist permission to paint it, but they're going to fight to keep it. [The Patriot Ledger via BI]

CAMBRIDGE - The Redbones Rib Shack in Central Square will be closed tomorrow, October 4, due to an icky-looking weather forecast. If you need your fix, the Redbones food truck will be in the Financial District for lunch and at Mass General for dinner. For more details on the truck's schedule, see Twitter. [Twitter]
