The surprisingly swanky Tonic in JP has been closed all month, and rumor has it that the restaurant may never reopen. A post on Chowhound says the restaurant is "officially closed" and claims to have information from the owner, who could not be reached at this time. Tonic opened back in April and essentially scored the equivalent of "A for effort" from many of its reviewers, who praised the novelty of the menu and some of the risks taken by then chef Ryan Kelly, though one also got the sense that Tonic had perhaps bitten off more than it could chew. Not long after, Kelly left. The restaurant also announced a drop in menu prices before going on summer vacation and then citing medical reasons for the October closure. Local restaurant critic MC Slim JB now weighs in on the rumored permanent closure via Chowhound, saying "A shame. It seemed like a bold experiment." Have a tip about Tonic? Do share via the tipline.
