Vietnamese sandwich lovers rejoice: Banh Mi House is now open just off the Common on Winter Street in Downtown Crossing. A post on Chowhound notes the shop's recent appearance, and the restaurant's owner tells Eater that it has been open since October 12. The menu currently features six banh mi, which start at $3.99, and may be adding two more options soon. For now, there's classic, vegetarian, barbecued pork, meatball, grilled beef or chicken banh mi as well as bubble tea and Vietnamese coffee. You might want to call before heading over, as they appear to be selling like hotcakes. Yesterday the restaurant took to Facebook saying "Only 3 banh mi left for the day. First come first serve."
Boston's best-known banh mi are predominantly found in Dorchester and Chinatown: this shop could mark the inevitable expansion of what everyone knows is the world's best sandwich into a wider range of geographic availability. Banh Mi House is open Monday through Friday from 11am to 6pm and Saturdays from 11am to 3pm.
