Gözi Bread Will Star at Piperi Mediterranean Grill

Piperi Mediterranean Grill is headed for One Beacon Street near Government Center, and when it opens, expect a lot of gözi. One Beacon Street is a skyscraper, but Piperi will be opening in what Rode Architects calls a "unique appendage to the adjacent 37 story building," pictured above. And what is gözi? According to the Piperi website, it's "a modern interpretation of Gözleme, a traditional hand-rolled pastry from Turkey" that is "a little thinner and a lot more flavorful (we think) than pita bread." Former Au Bon Pain and Mantra executive chef Thomas John is a partner in Piperi and will serve as chef, creating sandwiches, salads and rice bowls. Piperi says that John originally comes from a spice-farming in the state of Kerala, on India's southwest coast. A recent Craigslist job post says that Piperi is now under construction and "opening soon."
