Rumors have been circulating about chef Michael Schlow opening a new restaurant since Globe food critic Devra First mentioned the possibility on Dishing way back in 2011, and now Grub Street reports that the rumors are true. The new spot will be a "modern rock 'n' roll diner" called Happy's Bar & Kitchen, says Grub Street, and is slated to open in April in the former Burtons Grill space in Kenmore. Schlow is the executive chef and owner of Radius, Via Matta, Alta Strada, and Tico, and rumor has it that his new venture might focus on deli, which would not be a shock coming from someone who started a company called Good Essen, which is Yiddish for "good eating," and who is from New York and remains (gasp) a Yankees fan. Boston currently lacks a serious, contemporary deli like Mile End in NYC, but if Schlow's calling his new place a diner it's more likely that we'll see burgers than blintzes.
