Burns Supper at Bondir; Meal Tax Holiday Rejected

CAMBRIDGE - Bondir joins the list of restaurants planning Burns Suppers in honor of Scottish poet Robert Burns. There will be live music and poetry, and if the menu is like last year, there will be classic Scottish fare with Jason Bond flourishes such as potato leek soup with oysters, pancetta, and caviar. Janurary 24th, $75, five courses with pairings. Call for reservations: 617.661.0009. [BG]

FENWAY - Church will be holding a Chili Cook-off starring contributions from Tasty Burger, Citizen, Sweet Cheeks and more. January 28th, 1:00pm to 4:00p, $8. Buy tickets at the door or here. [BostonChefs]

THE STATEHOUSE - Lawmakers have nixed a meal tax holiday, which would have turned the 6.25% tax on restaurant meals to 0% from March 18 to March 23. But there is still hope for a cheaper dining bill come spring: the holiday is now being reviewed by a special commission and may yet go forward. [BG]
