Eater spoke with Trident Booksellers and Cafe GM Michael Lemanski about the establishment's planned expansion. "We've been in this location for 27 years, and at some point you start to outgrow the space a little bit," says Lemanski. Last night Trident had a positive meeting with the neighborhood association and says it's now "full speed ahead" for their plans to turn half of the second floor into additional cafe table seating. There will still be books up there, but the new arrangement will allow for tables overlooking Newbury Street, and who doesn't want to look at people on Newbury Street?
The expansion is specifically geared towards absorbing brunch traffic and reducing the wait time for tables. The menu will remain the same besides the typical fluctuations, but it's not like they're going fusion. "All that we know right now is that we want to do more of the same and serve more people," says Lemanski. Trident is now looking into permits and licensing and hopes the expansion will be operational within "a few months." And for the record, isn't it nice that at least one bookstore is expanding?
