Wegmans Coming to Chestnut Hill in Newton

Get ready for a hereto unknown gushing forth of supermarket worship as Wegmans announces plans for a new location in Newton. That's right, the legendary grocery store that recently opened it's first MA location in Northborough will now be coming to a town with a T. The Newton Patch reports that the new store will be located on Route 9 across from The Mall at Chestnut Hill and promises to have all of the familiar major features such as the "Market Cafe" despite being a a "smaller urban concept," clocking in at 70,000 square feet. Could the Newton location be a test for even smaller, more urban Wegmans that will probe deeper into Boston proper? Given the fact that the Northborough store broke all of the company's previous records for an opening, the answer is "probably." The Newton location will be the company's 80th store with others in NY, PA, NJ, VA and MD.
