Friends of Eater Describe 2011 in One Word

If you buy something from an Eater link, Vox Media may earn a commission. See our ethics policy.

As is the tradition at Eater, our closeout of the year is a survey of friends, industry types, bloggers, and readers. We've already covered Best Standbys, Top Newcomers and Best Neighborhood. Now it's time for 2011 described in a single word. Readers: feel free to add your own words via comment.

Q: How would you describe 2011 in one word?

Devra First, restaurant critic, food reporter, The Boston Globe: Local. I know, zzz.

Tom O'Keefe, BostonTweet: Social.

MC Slim JB, restaurant reviewer, Stuff Magazine, Boston Phoenix: Grange-to-gullet. (Hyphenates count as one word, right?) I saw more chefs not just mouthing the “seasonal/local” mantra this year for a change.

Penny and Ed Cherubino, BostonZest: Trucks!

Marc H., HiddenBoston: Artisan.

Rachel Leah Blumenthal, Boston Food Bloggers, Fork it Over, Boston!, restaurant reviewer, CBS Boston: Gluttonous.

Damien S., community manager, Yelp Boston: Simplification.
