After eight years of dishing out Peruvian and Brazilian food to the South End, Don Ricardo's has officially closed. My South End reports that the restaurant served its last tacu-tacu on Saturday. The restauarant opened in 1986 as Buteco II, became Botucatu in 1992 and finally became Don Ricardo's in 2003. Now the space will be known by another name when it reopens as the Puerto Rican Vejigante: no opening date has yet been announced. If you're looking for Don Ricardo's legendary garlicky carrot sauce, rumor has it that the recipe has been given to the chef at Merengue in Roxbury.
