Eater hears that Thailand Cafe in Central Square is rumored to be closing in connection with a planned $600 million expansion for the campus of pharmaceutical giant Novartis. The expansion will add 300 new jobs but may spell the end of a beloved neighborhood restaurant. Thailand cafe is known for its double identity as one of Boston's best Sichuan restaurants despite its name and despite the fact that its Thai menu is routinely trounced.
However there is no official confirmation and Novartis' plans don't seem to encroach on the space. One ominous sentence in an article from MIT's Tech about the expansion may have the explanation: "There will also be retail property along Mass. Ave, they said."
