FDA Recalls Olives From SoWa Open Market

The FDA released a recall notice today for olives stuffed with almonds from the Italian company Bio Gaudiano, which are imported by the Watertown company Pure Italian and sold at the SoWa Open Market in the South End. The FDA states that "All consumers who might have purchased Bio Gaudiano Stuffed Olives with Almonds of any size or lot should not consume the product and are urged to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund or discard it." The olives are being recalled after two people were hospitalized in Finland with botulism after eating Bio Gaudiano almond-stuffed almonds. Thanks to the Leather District Gourmet for the retweet, but wouldn't an almond-stuffed olive at the bottom of a martini be sufficiently sterilized?
