The Globe's food critic Devra First visits Catalyst and finds the restaurant to be surprisingly traditional given its zingy name, proximity to geeky MIT, and that whole molecular gastronomy thing afoot elsewhere. First notes that service and appetizers are inconsistent, she delights in a visually uplifting dish of pickled sugar pumpkin, seared scallops, pea greens and roasted onions, and declares that the restaurant's tournedos "may be the best beef dish I’ve eaten all year."
