Venu in Theater District Asked to Close

Photo: Venu

The city is asking the nightclub Venu to close after a shooting that injured four people in the Theater District. According to the Globe, Boston's police commissioner says that Venu and the nearby Rumor, which are owned by the same company, are host to an unacceptable level of gang-related activities. Last year Venu, which bills itself as "Boston's hottest international nightclub," had its license suspended for 11 days for what the Globe calls "a melee," and both clubs have prior suspensions due to fights between patrons and assault by patrons on police and inspectors. The manager for both clubs says he'll decide about closing Venu based on an upcoming hearing with the Boston licensing board. 'We're a nightclub, and nightclubs all over the city have issues," he says.
