A southern suburb of Boston will soon have a new restaurant to call its own, thanks to a chef with years of experience in kitchens all across New England. Sorelle officially opens its doors in Abington on Tuesday, April 4, with executive chef and owner Andrea Schnell at the helm.
Schnell’s prior resume includes The Winsor House in Duxbury and Square Café in Hingham, where she was executive chef, and she comes to this new venture fresh off a trip to Italy, where she met chefs and worked to develop inspiration for her menu at Sorelle.
“One of the things I admire most about Italian cooking is a chef’s uncanny ability to create something delicious out of a few basic, fresh ingredients,” said Schnell via press release. “I enjoyed creating the menu for Sorelle — it stretched my culinary creativity to deliver traditional Italian dishes with a fresher, modern twist that enhances the integrity of the original dish.”
Schnell and her wife Kristen purchased the former Vin & Eddie’s space at 1400 Bedford St. in the fall of 2016 and have been working with partner Jon D’Allessandro of Eat Drink Mingle Group and general manager Mark Doherty to prepare the restaurant. Sorelle seats approximately 150 people and has a contemporary design with a new bar and an outdoor patio. It is not connected to Boston’s Sorelle Bakery & Cafe, which has locations on Boston’s Atlantic Wharf and in Charlestown’s City Square, along with a forthcoming Seaport District location.
Starting April 4, Sorelle will be open for dinner seven days a week, and dishes will include Sicilian-style baked cod with fried polenta; gnocchi; acorn squash tortellini; and even a handful of classics inspired by Vin & Eddie’s, such as chicken saltimbocca and chicken parm. There will also be gluten-free options and a selection of lighter fare.
