The Cheese Shop of Salem has its space, team, and vision in place, and the gourmet shop is ready to open very soon, likely by the end of August.
Located in downtown Salem at 45 Lafayette St., The Cheese Shop aims to expand the budding food scene in the historic town with domestic and imported cheese, gourmet products, and wine and beer.
Owner Peter Endicott worked as a cheesemonger at the Concord Cheese Shop for years before embarking on this venture. He has assembled a qualified team of cheese and wine experts, including a newly-inducted member of the American Cheese Society Education Committee, aptly named Brie Hurd, as cheese buyer. Hurd is also an alum of the Concord Cheese Shop.
The Concord store offers lunch, including daily specials, like grilled chicken and corn chowder; Phil's Phabulous Italian sub; and the "Moo-tiful" sandwich with roast beef, tomatoes, lettuce, and artichoke Parmesan. The Salem shop's website doesn't indicate whether it will offer prepared foods, at least at first.
Stay tuned to the Cheese Shop of Salem on Facebook for updates as it gets ready to bring gourmet cheese and more to downtown Salem.
