The kitchen is now complete, DooWee & Rice's Duy Tran tweeted a few days ago, referring to the rebirth of his Somerville restaurant within Allston's Wonder Bar, which has been a long time coming. Tran's last big update was back in January, when he shared a lot of potential menu items on Chowhound and promised that his new restaurant would open at Wonder Bar "very soon." The DooWee & Rice at Wonder Bar project had already been in the works for about a year at that point, and Tran popped up occasionally at the bar to sell bao and some other dishes while early construction was underway.
But now it seems that things are really moving along. Wonder Bar has just shut down for a week of renovations, reports Boston Restaurant Talk, and while it's not clear if some of the renovations are directly related to DooWee & Rice or not, the bar promises "big things" when it returns.
According to Tran's January update, his menu may include dishes like heart-y fries, chicken heart-smothered fries that were on his Somerville menu; a variety of bao, including foie, octopus, and smelt; confit frog legs with a crispy garlic crust and sake fig emulsion; and various ceviches.
UPDATE, 7/14/15: "Life is grand at Wonder," the bar posted on Facebook last night. "The renovations are in the final stages @DooWeeTran dying to cook it up ! Grand Opening soon"
